Healthy Weight Guide for Beagles

Typical adult weight: 20–30 lb (9–14 kg). Individual dogs can be outside this range and still be healthy. Focus on body condition, not the scale alone.

Quick home check: You should feel ribs easily with light pressure, see a waist when viewed from above, and notice a slight tummy tuck from the side. If ribs are hard to find or there is no waist, your dog may be overweight.

Feeding and Activity Tips

  • Measure meals with a scoop or scale. Treats should be under 10% of daily calories.
  • Beagles love to sniff. Turn walks into “sniffaris” to boost enrichment without overexertion.
  • Check weight and body condition every 2–4 weeks and adjust calories with your vet’s guidance.
